Previous notes about the plugin

Pre-requisites or Pre-conditions

  • Clients must have a BigCommerce account.
  • Clients must have an Enterprise account in BigCommerce to use the multistorefront feature.

Glossary and abbreviations

  • BC: BigCommerce.
  • BigCommerce channel: in BC channels are components that publish the products in different platforms or places. Some of them are external like eBay, Amazon, Facebook by Meta, and Instagram by Meta. Other like Storefronts are internal.
  • MSF: Multi Storefront.
  • SL: Sales Layer.
  • SKU: Stock Keeping Unit.
  • API: software intermediary that allows two applications to talk to each other.
  • Staging environment: a staging environment is a nearly exact replica of a production environment.
  • Storefront: we could say that a storefront is an e-commerce. A storefront can have its own unique domain, theme, categories, web pages, social media links, price lists, email templates, and more. Clients have multiple stores in order to launch a unique brand, target a specific region or customer segment.
  • Category tree: representation of the categories structure in BigCommerce.
  • Custom field: custom fields are fields defined by the client that are not created by default in BigCommerce and are created by the connector. In SL, custom fields are created in the “Output data” tab of the connector. In particular, custom fields are available in “products” and “variants” tab, not in “categories”.

Recommendations and initial comments

For beginners

For beginners in BigCommerce, the BigCommerce Knowledge Base includes useful user documentation such as how-to guides and detailed description of features available in BigCommerce.

Considerations about the implementation

  • Different circumstances can affect the channel’s implementation and configuration:
    • The implementer experience.
    • Special cases of each customer and e-commerce customization.
    • Data preparation.
  • Taking into account these circumstances, the expected time of configuration can vary from one day to 2 or 3 weeks.

Recommendations for the implementation

  • Staging environment. During the implementation of this connector it’s recommended to use a staging environment for testing. This will allow the implementer to verify that the synchronization is done with the expected results without losing any data in the production environment.
  • Start testing with few items. During the initial configuration of the connector, it is highly recommended to export a small subset of items in order to test synchronization quickly. This can be made by applying multiple filters (labels, filters with manual searches, formulas …) and will avoid long waiting times in the synchronizations.
  • Importation process. For new clients that already have their items in BigCommerce, it’s recommended to export the items to CSV in BC and import them in Sales Layer.

Recommendations for day-to-day work

Remember that synchronizations are carried out only in one direction. It is recommended to manage all product information in SL, not in BC. Take into account that the modifications made on BC are not propagated to the SL catalog. Therefore, this could lead to product information inconsistencies.
