How can I know if the item synchronization was successful?

In the connector in Sales Layer, after the first synchronization, a section will appear with the synchronization record. There you can see all the information about the synchronization, as well as errors, warnings and recommendations.

What happens to items in BigCommerce when I change the draft status in Sales Layer?

When changing the status of an item in Sales Layer, if the filter is set to send only visible items in the connector, these will remain invisible in BigCommerce.

There is only one case where variables are removed: when an existing variable has associated attributes, and they are modified.

As an example, we can think of a product that has Size M and it is changed to Size L  + Color Blue in Sales Layer. As the BC API does not allow to alter these attributes, it is necessary to delete and create it again.

 

What does the following error in the Recent Activity refer to?

This error indicates that the relevant permissions must be given to the Sales Layer API to allow the connection to BigCommerce.

Starting with version 105 of Sales Layer (October 2021) we have added some fields that need the configuration information of the store. So, in the event that you want to map the Preorder Release Date field, it is necessary to give the permission of Informations & Settings to our API. BigCommerce does not allow you to change the settings of an API, which was already created. Therefore, it will be necessary to create a new API and update the credentials in the connector.

If you do not need to map the mentioned field, this will not be necessary and this error can be ignored.

 

What happens when the connector returns the error "attribute with different values"?

This error occurs when you try to send different values for the same attribute to BigCommerce. Therefore, we recommend reviewing all the information related to that field, including the fields used in the formulas.

As an example we can talk about the "color" attribute in which we are sending different values for the same color title, such as: Black Frame #008080 and Black Frame #008000, while it should be the one or the other value.

 

What happens to the ongoing synchronization if we deactivate the connector? 

If we deactivate the connector while it is synchronizing, we will need to manually delete the pending file from our server. Otherwise, once the connector is activated, it will continue from where it left off the last time. Therefore, if we erase that file and later reactivate the connector, it will start synchronization with all of the modifications since the last date.

What is the meaning of the error message “A duplicate category with the name: SL Category Credentials check was found in the same parent” in the Sales Layer Log tab?

Due to the inner workings of the connector, Sales Layer creates a category to validate credentials and the connection to BigCommerce. When the connection is successful and communication has been established, this category is automatically deleted. If for some specific reason it is not deleted, it will show the following error:

In this case, the category may be deleted from BigCommerce, and you will have to wait for the connector to synchronize again for it to be deleted.

Warning: It is important not to refresh the connector after making this change; this refresh causes all items that are passing through the connector to be resent

How does a Sales Layer sync with BigCommerce work?

When the connector is executed, it first reads all the existing data in the BigCommerce store, this reading will take more or less time depending on the number of items on BigCommerce. Once the reading is done, the existing data in BigCommerce is compared with that of Sales Layer, if the data between BigCommerce and Sales Layer coincide, it will be linked. If the data does not exist on BigCommerce, the system will create it and link it.

 

What can I do while the sync is running?

Keep in mind that synchronizations need more or less time depending on many factors. During a sync, you can still continue making modifications on Sales Layer: these will be stored and used for the next synchronization. On BigCommerce, try not to delete any product or category as these actions could trigger the corruption of the internal connection file that is generated during the synchronization process between Sales Layer and BigCommerce.
